Don’t forget to leave room for some Greek sweets! Many people adore “loukoumades” (honey doughnuts), “galaktoboureko” (a custard-filled pie), baklava, and halva. If you happen to be in Greece during Christmas, be sure to try the honey-soaked cookies called “melomakarona” and the almond cookies known as “kourabiedes.” On New Year’s, every Greek family bakes a pie called “vasilopita.”
